서울시 미래유산 통인가게는 고미술과 현대 미술, 현대 공예가 공존하는 복합문화예술 공간으로, 1973년 건축가 김석재(한국 근대건축의 거장 김중업 선생의 제자)를 통해 완공되었다.  가야 · 신라 시대의 목이 긴 토기 '장경호' 의 형태를 모티브로 한 통인가게는 빛의 유입을 줄여 고미술품을 보존할 수 있도록 3층 이상으로 거의 창을 내지 않았다는 특징을 갖는다. 통인가게에 전체적으로 풍기는 묵직하면서도 고풍스러운 분위기는 문화의 중심 인사동의 모습과 조화를 이루고 있다.

The Store from TONG-IN, designated as a Seoul Future Heritage site, is a complex cultural and artistic space where antiquities, modern art, and contemporary crafts coexist. It was completed in 1973 by architect Kim Seok-jae, a disciple of Kim Chung-up, a master of modern Korean architecture. Inspired by the form of the long-necked earthenware vessel known as janggyeongho from the Gaya and Silla periods, the building features a distinctive design. To allow natural light while preserving antique artworks, it has very few windows above the third floor. The overall atmosphere of The Store from TONG-IN—solemn and classical—harmonizes with the character of Insadong, the cultural heart of Seoul.
